The Art of Dowsing: Unlocking Hidden Energies
Dowsing, also known as divining or water witching, is an ancient art that taps into unseen energies to locate water, minerals, or even spiritual forces beneath the earth’s surface. Practitioners use tools such as dowsing rods, pendulums, or even their hands to connect with subtle vibrations, enabling them to find hidden resources or answers to personal questions.
I am by no means an expert on the subject, but have had some interesting results using Dowsing rods.

Are you a believer in dowsing
Personally, I am a believer and regularly use dowsing rods along with a metal detector to find areas of ancient habitation.
The process of dowsing is simple yet profound. The dowser holds a tool—often a Y-shaped branch or two L-shaped rods—and allows it to move in response to specific energies. When the dowser is in tune with the environment, the rods may cross, the pendulum may swing, or other signs may appear, indicating the presence of the sought-after object or energy.
Dowsing is a personal thing
While dowsing has historical roots in water exploration, many modern practitioners also use it for advanced searches.
Personally, I don’t believe you can use dowsing rods for personal gain and health diagnoses, although many may think differently.
It’s believed that dowsing engages the subconscious mind, tapping into intuition and a deeper connection with the world around us. Whether you’re a seasoned practitioner or a curious beginner, dowsing offers an intriguing way to connect with the mysteries of the Earth.

So how do you start dowsing?

Buy or make your rods
I like to make my rods out of Aluminium rod, I feel you have better control over them than the rods that fit into tubes, once again this is a personal thing and something I have honed over the years.
Traditionalists use wooden twigs, I have also seen these working to great effect.
Your dowsing rods are personal
Before you start to become effective with the rods, you will first need to build an association with them, this will become easier over time.
What do you make Dowsing rods from
Some use wood, I personally like to use Aluminium rods
Length 20″
Handle 4″
Rod diameter 4mm
How to build an association with dowsing rods
Building an association is based around asking the rod’s simple questions. Before each question is asked, make sure the rods are in the neutral position, pointing forward, with your arms tucked to your side.
1. What way would you go for YES? (wait for a response)
2. What way would you go for NO? (wait for a response)
Providing you have witnessed a yes and no response, you can then move onto the second set of questions.
3. Can I ask you questions today?
Hopefully you will get a yes response, if it is no, don’t worry, it could be you are not in a relaxed state or the rods pick up you are a non-believer. You need to place yourself in an “Alpha state”
Questions 4 onwards are your personal choice, with experience you will find the best route.
Here are the questions I use for metal detecting.
4. Can you point me towards the nearest mass of metal in this field, or can you point towards the nearest ancient water source.
This is where you need to think out of the box, questions such as “Take me to the nearest Gold” will never work, so you have to be more discreet with your questions.
I hope this little Dowsing article has given you some good ideas, if you want to know more I have a popular video of Dowsing and the association with Dowsing rods below.
