A hot detector straight out of the box

Living with the Minelab Manticore has in many ways completely reshaped my metal detecting experience. The Multi-IQ+ technology and intuitive interface, delivers serious performance whether you’re combing beaches, forests, or ancient farmland. It’s not just a detector—it’s a high-tech portal into a better metal detecting experience.

Switch on and go!
From the moment I switched it on, the Manticore impressed me with its user-friendly interface.
The Target ID system is incredibly precise, drastically cutting down on digging unwanted trash.

Out of the box
Straight out of the box, it’s pretty much ready to go.
I’ve pulled coins relics from depths I didn’t think were possible.

One of the standout features is the 2D Target Trace screen. Seeing a visual representation of a target’s construction and orientation helps distinguish between diggers and non-diggers. It’s not foolproof, but it’s a powerful tool once you learn how to read it

What really makes living with the Manticore enjoyable is how customizable it is. You can tailor everything from tone profiles to search modes. At first, the settings may appear overwhelming, but after a few outings, you’ll appreciate the control it gives you in the field.

The cursor is clearly showing at the top of the screen – The target is Ferrous.

Pic 2
The cursor is indicating a mixed target – In this case a modern coin with an Iron core.

Pic 3
The cursor is confident on the middle line showing this is a good Non – Ferrous target.

Minelab Manticore accessory search coils

There is a wide range of search coils available for your Manticore, depending on your search scenarios, each coil is simply plug and play and in many cases no machine adjustment is necessary.
Build quality
The build quality is rugged yet sleek, and the ergonomics are excellent—even during long sessions. The carbon shaft and well-balanced design reduce fatigue, and the rechargeable battery holds up well.

Giving me the best chance
Of course, no metal detector will guarantee treasure every time, but I felt at times the Manticore was certainly giving me an edge.
It’s more than a tool—it becomes a part of you once you understand its unique language.
My Minelab Manticore wish list
I have been hunting for the perfect metal detector for over 30 years, and I feel the Manticore is getting close.
There are only 2 things I would like to see in future Minelab models and I feel they are missing a big Elephant in the room.
1. The carbon stems need a new shape or a locking pin to stop them from twisting.
2. Portability – This machine really needs to fold down smaller, in order to fit into an average sized backpack. The high screen could really do with a hinge mechanism, so it folds flat.
Lots of people are now choosing to be mobile with their detectors, for example, E Bikes are becoming very popular amongst detectorists, they can quickly transport you across farmland to your desired search area, and this is where portability is giving the competition a slight edge.
Living with the Minelab Manticore summary
The M9 coil has certainly changed my metal detecting experience, the Manticore has now joined the ranks as a super light metal detector, thanks to modern coil technology and the carbon fibre stem configuration.
However, if weight is not a problem, and you are hunting for super deep relics, you may want to look at the 18″ coil from Coiltek.
This bad boy Gucci accessory may be the difference between success and failure!
