Don’t overthink the Minelab Manticore

Overthinking this machine can be your barrier to entry, it’s HOT straight out of the box !
My go-to search mode is the All Terrain General, even if I am looking for low conductive targets, initially you would assume using the low conductor default would be the best choice, but I found this mode eliminates Coke….That’s a low conductor, isn’t it ? Remember, some ancient coins fall within the Coke range, try the Coke test yourself in Low Conductors.
So until I have found a valid reason to change, All Terrain General is the one I will be sticking with.

Ferrous bars top and bottom
These offer a good form of customizable Iron rejection, but unless you are hunting in areas that require a specific accept or reject, I would advise leave well alone and use the all metal feature allowing the tones to give you target information.
How can I tell what is All Metal
You can see by the image on the left has the horse shoe highlighted, indicating the ferrous bars are not active, and you are in all metal for searching.

Screen information
Using Multi IQ + the screen will give you exactly the same target information when searching in discriminate or All metal modes.
The only time the screen information will be limited is when you are hunting in a single frequency setting.

Tone choices – A Hybrid 2 tone

Minelab manticore tone choices – A lot tho choose from
Tones are really your choice, I prefer a Hybrid 2 – Tone to make it easy on my ears, after all I am only interested in hearing Ferrous targets and Non-Ferrous targets, conductivity levels mean very little when hunting for ancient artefacts.
You can see my settings below.

The sulky teenager
You will hear me refer to this term in my videos, this is the low sound from a low conductive target which can be easily missed
I find my ears are very well tuned into this low tone, feel free to change it to a pitch you are happy with.
Remember – Take care of the low conductors and the high conductors will take care of themselves.

Other settings
Silencer – 1
Audio Theme – Normal
Profile – Medium
Recovery speed 5
Always make a rolling noise cancel.
The Minelab Manticore learning curve
Like all top end machines, the Manticore has a learning curve, it will be much easier to learn this machine if you stick to the same set-up, so choosing the right tone and sound profiles are paramount.
The meter can give you good information, but it is certainly not “The font of all knowledge”
